Vinyl Thrifting Fun!

Even though I think the thrift stores stink in Northern Virginia, I've been surprisingly been finding a lot of fun vinyl!

I picked up this Beatles record for Dustin a few weeks ago. It's in amazing shape (except for the stupid GoodWill tag on the front). This is the fourth Beatles record I've gotten at this GoodWill. I'm not sure what's up with that. It was just in with the regular records for only $1.50! If this record was at a thrift store in Butler where I used to live, it would be in the display case for $20. Hahah! Hope they never realize...it's all good with me!

Travis made fun of me when I brought this home. He tried to listen to Hank Williams in the car once. I couldn't stand it! I fully admit that my first impression on music comes out wrong a LOT of the time. I get annoyed "just because" someone is trying to make me listen to something new. LOL! I know I'm a jerk! (I'm trying to do better ok?) Also, I wasn't in the mood that day especially. I've been reading so many Johnny Cash books, and have learned a lot about Hank Williams in the process...ok NOW I'm in the mood. Anyway I totally adore listening to this record. It has such a warm record sound. Hahah. Sorry, I'm only human!

Pretty cool Joshua Tree U2 record. This thing is pretty beat up though. It skips. Oh well.

Grabbed this for Dustin as well. I love it, but I know he's been wanting it too. Yay!

Tattoo fixer-upper

Super delayed post:
A while back I got a set of IO Moths tattoo'd on my back.
I did love them at the time, but then later thought they really seemed incomplete. Tattoo: before

First off... Why did I make them both male? LOL. I guess I just wasn't thinking, but I thought it would be cute if one was male and one female. So, one of my moths had a sex change. tattoo work
Thanks Jonnie Fredrick at Electric Empire for a fantastic job!
Will get a better picture after its healed. Love it! @jonnieblanche
This picture was taken right after I was finished. Sadly it's been so cold here, I haven't really had an opportunity to take a picture of it healed. I'm a slacker.
This is the best I've got for now!

LIFE Magazine November 1969

Over the weekend I scored this LIFE Magazine from November 1969 featuring Johnny Cash! Travis and I got it at an estate sale, which was super expensive. To our surprise the guy only wanted 50¢ for it! Yea!
I've been reading Johnny Cash books like crazy lately, so this was extremely appropriate.
Life Magazine November 1969

I thought it was interesting that most of the pictures of JC in this magazine, were ones I had not seen before.
So fun to look at!

I loved this spread with crazy photography.

Free Label Download: Twice Loved Packaging!

twice loved packaging
I am a firm believer in reusing shipping materials as much as possible. I mean, in this day in age when we are trying to be green and thrifty, why wouldn't we reuse our mailers and boxes? I know it's not the prettiest thing, but it just makes sense. So because of this, I decided to make a neat little label to explain ourselves a bit.

Download your free "Please excuse my twice loved packaging!" label pdf HERE!

Dominican Republic on the brain...

NINE days until we're flying back to the Dominican Republic!!! It seems surreal since I moved and am separated from the rest of the team back in Butler. If you weren't around last year during my trip, you can read about it here. Next Friday I'm gonna drive my little old self to Newark NJ to meet the rest of the crew early Saturday morning. I'm a tiny bit nervous about that part, but I know I can do it.

I can't wait to see all these cuties again!
Dominican Republic

Not to mention... I get to hang with Dustin for a whole week!! YEA! Miss my little Dusty so much.
Dominican Republic Dominican Republic 2012

This year I will be working another mural or two same as last time. Also, I am going to work with some of the Haitian girls crocheting!  I'm really excited about being able to work with them in small groups and really get to know them. I'm attempting to get old sheets to take along so we can make some rag rugs! So if you live in Butler and want to donate any, let me know!!! We could arrange for you to get them to Dustin. I'm also collecting yarn, especially the 100% cotton kind.

I really covet your prayers for this trip, if you are the praying type. It would mean the world to me!

The DR is such a beautiful place. Not to mention it's around 90° there. Wahoo!

eShakti dress review!

I am extremely excited to present my very first dress review! When eShakti contacted me I was actually caught off guard since I've never done a dress review before. I've always wanted to do something like this. Did I mention I was super excited?

I was thrilled to see that eshakti does sizes 0-32 with customization! Customization is only an additional $7.50 per item, with the first time being free! I was eager to try this since I have a hard time with general sizing. For dresses, in order for my waist to fit, I usually have to go with a medium. This causes the dress be too big in the chest area. It's a never ending battle for me. I was dying to try a custom dress!

It was very hard to decide what to get since there were so many cute dresses! The website was very easy to use. I have never taken my own measurements before, but they made it very easy. I simply did what the website said, and entered in the measurements.
eshakti review!

The dress arrived quickly (for a custom dress) and it fits perfectly! I slipped it right on without any problems. The waist and chest area fit perfect. What an amazing thing! When I did the customization I chose the length "as shown" which ended up being true to the picture. Sometimes when choosing a shorter dress, it ended up being too short for me so I was a little afraid. I realized I might of liked the shorter version in this particular instance. My bad.  No worries though, I love the dress just the same! I just know for next time to chose the short option.
eshakti review!

The quality of the dress is great! Everything seemed to be finished off with great care.
eshakti review!

The mesh at the top, wasn't too delicate that I was afraid to tare it.
It seems very strong aslong with all the stitching.
That's great for me since I tend to be hard on clothes. eshakti review!

Did I ever mention that's it's really hard for me to be serious all the time in photos?
I'm having a "Gandalf" moment here.
eshakti review!

O hai. This is me relieving the stress from being a model for a few minutes.
Or maybe it's that I'm just weird.
eshakti review!

One thing that I have to mention is, I was a little freaked out when I received the package and realized it came straight from India. I decided to do a little more research. I was happy to find this statement from the CEO about the working conditions:

"Something our customers might be interested to know is that we provide continuous employment with a good salary to a lot of skilled artisans. Our value chain extends at one end to our customers for whom what we offer is unique and beautiful and at the other end to our employees for whom their job at eShakti represents assured and much higher earning than what they would otherwise get. It might be important to reiterate here that we only employ those over 18 years of age and in fact most of our employees are over 21. Our work environment is the same across all personnel in the company and we work out of an air-conditioned space, one of the few of its kind in India."

With that being said, I'm SO pleased with eShakti! The fact I can get dresses that actually fit me is exciting. If you've ever had problems with clothes fitting correctly, I highly recommend this site. Well, even if you don't, I highly recommend eShakti. They have tons of cute clothes and the prices aren't bad at all. They also have a Bridesmaids collection which is fantastic! Definitely check them out.

Gravelly Point, Arlington VA

Yesterday, since it was the first nice day in a long time we decided to ride our bikes on the Mt. Vernon trail. Apparently everyone else had the same idea! It was so packed. We encountered several bike/people traffic jams. It was nuts! We rode about 8 miles out to Gravelly Point. It's a neat park area right at the Reagan National Airport. Airplanes land practically right over you. It's pretty nifty.  Of course you have a Wayne's World moment every time.

HAHA! This painting makes me laugh. It's the epitome of my state in the morning.
I couldn't help by add a few nostalgic coffee mugs. They make me so happy!
Once again, it took me well over a year to get from sketch to painting. Eh...it's how I roll.

We are knitted.

Two Friends

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous -- and how well I know it.  You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
Psalm 139 13-16 (NLT)

Did you ever really think about this? If you've ever knitted before, you know that it is delicate and complex. There's great love and care that goes into it. If you're making a softie, you have to choose the weight of yarn, type, color, right down to the type of stuffing, and how much. There are endless possibilities!

The amazing thing is, WE were knitted together by the creator of the universe! What an amazing and detailed work each of us must be! Because of this, I have no problem saying I am an amazing work of art. I am unique and I am loved. I mean, the same God that made the entire universe and everything in it... made ME!  Now THAT is an amazing thing. The handiwork doesn't get any better than that.

Amen right?
