Vines of the day so far. Ugh... the day is going so slow!

New hairs.

I went through with it! New short hair cut...and I'm REALLY happy with it! It's so easy I can hardly believe it.
Not to mention the color is lasting way longer since I don't have to battle with the purple part. Horray!

Good hair day.

Here's a few "process photos" LOL!   (UGHHH scariest thing ever!!!)

I'm back!

Hi everyone! I'm back from my little jaunt to Pennsylvania. I had a great week at the "BroPad" (AKA my old house).  We had lots of fun hanging out, eating, watching Django...you know, "Bro" stuff!  At the end of the week I had a craft show, which ended up being a bust. Oh well, I had fun seeing old friends that came to visit, and making some new connections.  My set up looked nice anyway!

I'm VERY excited to announce that my next show will be with the DC Craft Mafia!
This will be my first show in the DC area since moving.
To say I'm thrilled would be an understatement.

Lomo Saturday. At long last!

So, back in February, I decided to try out the Lomolab. Errrmmmm... sort of a big mistake? Well, over a month went by and still no sign of my film. I thought it was lost forever!! I sent several messages to customer service with no reply. Suddenly a couple of weeks ago, I got a reply saying that the post office lost a batch of their mail, but it had been recovered! HUGE sigh of relief. I mean, film is something you can't just replace. This had memories from the last Cornerstone, Cedarpoint, and DC! So anyway, the email came earlier this week with a link to my scans. WHEW! I still haven't received the actual prints though. The only reason I sent this film to them is because it was that special professional film that regular places wouldn't develop. I'll be sure not to use that film again. The pictures really don't look any different AND it was a royal pain!
So at long last...more Lomo Saturday - Cornerstone 2013 edition!

What I've Been Reading... Johnny Cash series!

This is a little delayed, because I actually finished this series of books right before I left for the Dominican.  I have never claimed to be a good writer, and usually suck at reading even more. I've recently fell in love with reading and I don't understand it at all! I guess it's a new time in my life, for new things!  So, I'm gonna give it my best shot, giving a brief description of the books and my thoughts about each. Here we go!

What I've been Reading What I've been Reading

Johnny Cash - The Autobiography: This was simply an amazing book. It was easy to read and flowed well. Johnny is a great story teller. He tells all about his life from beginning until end...well almost end. He lets you in on everything from family, to band members, song inspiration and wacky stories. It was fascinating and I couldn't put it down! It's also fun to read and see how it lines up with the movie "Walk the Line". Pretty cool!

The Man Called Cash by Steve Turner: I thought this might be boring and just repeat what I had already read. Sometimes it did repeat stories, but in a different and equally interesting way. Steve Turner actually goes into detail on some things that you might have wondered about after reading the autobiography. He also points out some discrepancies in stories from what he had learned vs what Johnny says. Very very interesting. Some of the things made you wonder if Johnny was just a story teller, liar, exaggerator or crazy. Hahah. It's a great read and the perfect compliment to the autobiography. I also learned that Shel Silverstein who wrote The Giving Tree, also wrote A Boy Named Sue. Mind blown!

I Walked The Line by Vivian Cash: When I found out that Johnny's first wife Vivian wrote a book, I knew I had to read it. I always thought the movie unfairly portrayed her as some sort of witch who deserved everything that happened to her. She gets to tell her side of the story in this book, and with Cash's blessing even. She seemed to be a very dedicated and loving wife who's family was destroyed by addiction. With Johnny's big time problem with amphetamines, and the fact his wife and children were rarely with him, his life got well...messed up. The book includes EVERY SINGLE letter that Johnny wrote to Vivan while he was stationed in Germany. It got a little old at times, but I persevered through them and I'm glad I did. Very very cool book, definitely worth the read!

Man In White by Johnny Cash: This is a historical fiction written by Cash himself about the conversion of the apostle Paul. At times during the book I got bored, then at times I was loving it. I got mad at myself a few times for not understanding what was going on. I expected a little more of myself since I have read the Bible and should know this stuff! *sigh * Overall it was great and really put life to the the Pharisees, Saul/Paul, Peter and the whole Damascus road experience. If you're going to read this, I highly recommend at least reading Acts chapter 7, 8 & 9 first. I read those chapters after the book, and it was just as fun to compare and contrast.

Now enjoy "Flushed From The Bathroom of Your Heart" by Johnny Cash.

Hair chop chop???

Untitled

So, I still absolutely love my hair color. Bright pink with purple ombre. LOVE it! The problem is, the purple just won't stay in. It's so hard to capture in pictures...but the ends get grey/orange/purple in no time at all. The hair under the purple is where I had dyed my hair black a million times. It wouldn't bleach lighter than orange, thus the purple hair color won't stick. I am still doing the "no poo" method, and it still fades in just a few days, without even a real shampoo! So anyway, I was considering just getting it chopped off short so all the hair would be bleach-able  Like pretty darn short. I always have been afraid of this, because it's so "normal" looking to me.  I think I'm gonan take the plunge. Since my hair is pink, I'm doubting that it will look like a "normal" cut. Plus, it's only hair! What's the big deal anyway? It will grow out. Not the end of the world.
Right when I'm debating on this over and over in my mind... Kandee Johnson (who has the cutest short hair cut right now) made this video that totally inspired me. She is just the cutest thing. Love her and her upbeat bubbly attitude.

Hazzaaahh!!! Be who you wanna be! Try different styles and get over what "other people" are doing. (I'm preaching to myself here). Why would we all want to be the same? Why would want to stay the same forever and/or look like everyone else?? Change is so good, and so fun!! Embrace your style and other's style...no matter what it may be!

Ok I think I've got it all out of my system. I'm all pumped up and ready for more change!

Inspired...

Is it ok if I basically steal an entire post from someone? Well, I'm gonna. :D
Amber of "I love you to the moon" blog posted this verse today.
It really spoke to me, so of course I had to write it in my sketchbook journal.
So yea....here's my version.

I thought since I was on a roll, I'd do a "currently" list as well.

Watching: Weird YouTube videos. Did you ever get sucked into "that weird part of YouTube"? I'm talkin, strange hard to diagnose medical problems, surgeries, mental illnesses....I don't know why I get sucked into those so often! They are all so fascinating to me.

Reading: I have never read so much...ever. It's weird how things change in your life... I never used to have time, nor did I want to read. Now days, I have more time and it's so fun! It's peaceful and gratifying.  I'm always in awe of how things change, and your interests change. Hey, whatever!  I plan on doing a book review of the 4 Johnny Cash books I just read, and then the other random books I've been reading. Stay tuned!

Thinking about: We're going to see Five Iron Frenzy on Saturday! YEA!!! Only one of the greatest ska bands of all time. In my humble opinion anyway.

Eating: I think I've been eating a little too much lately. Feeling really fluffy. Need to get back to drinking more water and avoiding junk. I indeed have gained a few lbs since I was off track during the Dominican Trip. It never ceases to amaze me how easily I gain if I don't pay attention. Such is life I guess. I'm really trying to mentally turn a new leaf in this area. I want to continue what I'm doing, but in a more relaxed manner. I want continue to watch and exercise, but be content with how I look. I know there will always be ups and downs in the scale. I need to accept that and simply be happy that I am taking care of myself and the body that God gave me.

Looking forward to:  Going back to Butler next week and my craft show at the Pittsburgh Mills. I get to spend a week with Dustin again...visit with my friend and family AND do a craft show. What could be better? Well, having Travis with me would be nice. He's on a business trip for the next two weeks. At least I'll have something to occupy my time!

Making me happy: Warm weather. Oh my. This seemed like the longest winter of my entire life! Oddly enough, it was probably one of the warmest winters of my life since I'm living further south. It just never bothered me as much before I had to manually take the dogs outside 4-5 times a day. I'm so looking forward to night walks that don't make me want to curl up and die.

That's about it! What are you up to???

I'm back! Dominican Republic 2013 was amazing. (picture heavy)

Dominican Republic 2013
Me and mi amiga Mararita.

It's so hard when you come back from a trip like this. You want to tell everyone, about everything that happened. You want them to experience what you experienced and feel the emotions you felt. Alas, most people will not understand unless they were there, or have been to a missions trip in a third world country before. Some of the moments this year seemed so surreal. I got to spend three days in a small village of Haitian refugees. The poorest, humblest and happiest people ever. Beautiful people, with gorgeous children. I really can't explain or tell about it all. It's just too much for my brain to sort through at the moment. Instead, I will post some of my favorite pictures from the trip.

If you ever get a chance to go on a missions trip, please do it. It will change your life every time.
