Rest easy Denyse

Friends

This is a little sketch I did yesterday in the midst of grief, knowing my dear friend only had days or hours to live. Our lives crossed during our teens which rooted us together, and then again 20 years later. Tied by the bond of friendship it's like we didn't miss a beat.

I'm thankful to of shared this planet with her.
Rest easy Denyse.

Daily Drawings February Part 1

I have a little sketching group on facebook called "Butler Sketch Collective." I originally created it so that a group of us could get together and do some urban sketching. We did it a few times, but me being the introvert it's been slow going. Right now we're doing a daily drawing challenge for the month of February. There's a prompt posted every day. It's fun! Here's the month so far.

My goal this year is to sketch or paint at least five days a week. For some reason it's a big challenge! You wouldn't think so since that's part of my job! LOL. A lot of days it's just business stuff, sewing or whatever. I have to super intentional about it or I won't at all. This has been great because it keeps me on my toes. Some days I REALLY don't want to and it shows. That's all right. Some drawing is better than non at all.

Decemdraw - half way roundup

As some of you may know, I've been participating in "Decemdraw" with Axelhoney! It's been totally fun! I've been so busy the last few months, I haven't really had time to sketch until now. this is exactly what I needed to get myself back in the mood. Such a nice way to celebrate December!

Free art print download!

Hi everyone.
Recently I've been struggling with a few things. Nothing catastrophic or anything, but you know how it is. Sometimes life doesn't go the way you want it. It's fine. I'm thankful with where I am. God puts us where we are for a reason. I'm going to sit back and trust in that. I know God has a plan for me.

We all need reminded of this daily...to be thankful during the good AND the bad.

Enjoy this free download of my latest sketchbook watercolor, and be thankful in all circumstances.

"Retro-sketch"

I just found all these drawings from elementary school!
I used to take stickers from my collection (ahh! The 80's!) and re-draw them.
I'm really not sure how old I was when I did these...but I'm thinking second grade?!?

From the sketchbook...

From the sketchbook...
Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.

food on the brain.

Ever since I went on tour late June, I've been out of whack with my diet. I totally let loose, and ended up gaining 8lbs. Doesn't sound like a lot, but it definitely is for someone who is only 5"0' tall.
Well, I'm back on track. Eating right isn't that difficult to me...it's portion sizes and fast food that get me every time. UGH!
Here we go!

365 - Daily Creativity Journal

A few posts back I mentioned I was going to participate in a 365 Daily Creativity Journal Challenge, inspired by this book. It's only been 5 days, but I'm loving it so far! I'm basically sticking to the theme of "trees." For the last year or so, I've been obsessed with drawing trees, and admiring their awesome individuality. This seems like the perfect subject to run with, since I'm exploding with ideas.
Here are a few that I've done so far.

I'll be posting my daily progress on my "Marcia Sketches" blog. This blog used to be for my daily sketch journal, which I eventually poo-poo'd out on.
Let's give this another try!
