Vintage Chairs Re-covered!

I've had these old vintage chairs for years. When we first got them, they were in decent condition, but through the years got tons of holes. I procrastinated on redoing them for so long. I was always afraid and unsure on how to do it! Finally, after moving back I had enough. No more sitting on duct tape and getting a sticky butt! I found beautiful laminated cotton on etsy and upholstery tacks on ebay and was on my way. I am SO SO SO pleased with the results. The chairs are so fun and totally me!

I made a little template to help with the back of the chair.

I just cut the fabric out a little bigger than the template so I could fold it under. 

 

I was always scared of the upholstery tacks. I don't know why. 

I guess I didn't know how they worked or how hard it was to use them.

Well, it's super easy! I didn't really measure the distance between them.

I just sort of eyeballed it and it looks great! 

   

All though this project turned out awesome and was moderately easy to do, it was physically hard. HA! So much pulling, stretching and hammering. I definitely broke a sweat a few times, had some sore muscles and smashed my fingers a couple of times. Totally worth it!

I'm back!

Hi everyone! I'm back from my little jaunt to Pennsylvania. I had a great week at the "BroPad" (AKA my old house).  We had lots of fun hanging out, eating, watching Django...you know, "Bro" stuff!  At the end of the week I had a craft show, which ended up being a bust. Oh well, I had fun seeing old friends that came to visit, and making some new connections.  My set up looked nice anyway!



I'm VERY excited to announce that my next show will be with the DC Craft Mafia!
This will be my first show in the DC area since moving.
To say I'm thrilled would be an understatement.

My 2nd Rag Rug

I had to make another one for the front door!
I got these sheets from the Thrift Store. Purple and blue!

I'm making another rag rug. This one is for the front door...dirty shoes and such. I really like the colors!

My first rag rug...complete!

Wow, that was such a gratifying little craft!
That's what I'm talking about...quick, easy, practical and pretty!
It probably only took me a couple hours total. So fun!    

I'm making a rag rug!

I've had this major urge to crochet lately. Too bad I got rid of ALL my yarn before I moved. On top of that the last thing I need is a new scarf!  I've been wanting to try to make a rag rug for a while now...I just kept forgetting! Dah! So anyway, I finally got started on that last night.

Most of the time people use old sheets to make these. I happen to have this big piece of fabric that I got at the Thrift Store. It looked ok when I bought it, but then realized later it could tare easily. So something like that is perfect for a rag rug! For some reason I can't find the exact tutorial I used to learn how to tare the sheet! There's a million out there though. Just go to youtube and search "how to make a rag rug".

That piece of fabric got me a little circle, about 18" in diameter.


I'd like it to be a lot bigger, so I found another sheet that would look nice in the bathroom, and tore it up.


Of course Elora is right there ready to help. Like...right. there.


It probably won't take me long to finish it. I'm thinking today or tomorrow.
I'll be sure to post the results!

Around the apartment.

Just a few peeks around our apartment!

My new painting workspace! I had to get an area carpet to protect the "actual" carpet.

I'm such a messy painter there was no way around it. Aw dang.

With the way I arranged them, there will always be room for more! ;D

 

I had NO coasters and a lot of new furniture. So I found a tutorial and whipped these right up! 

Once again, I used the free color map fabric I got from Spoonflower. 

 

And of course...Neko. He loves how the sun comes in the window every afternoon.

Repurposed Record Player Cabinet!

This is a little overdue, since I actually did this over the summer. . . but I'm still so happy about it! We got this old record player cabinet from a friend, and I instantly thought it would look GREAT yellow!  Anyway, it turned out great, and looks fabulous in our new apartment.

Yesterday I got to do a little sewing to complete my "to-do" list. Love it when your chores = crafty fun!
A few months ago, Spoonflower.com offered a free color map since they were changing their printing. I thought the piece of fabric was delightfully nerdy, and would have to made into something awesome. My bathroom (in my Butler home) was just remodeled, and needed a little curtain. Perfect!  I decided to go with a "Cafe Curtain" because it would still let a lot of light in, but also give privacy. SO EASY!

I used this tutorial video to make the curtains.
The only thing I did different, was actually sew the hems instead of using hem tape. 

Next, I took fabric left over from curtains that I got at Ikea, and made pillow cases!
So much better then the ugly old ones we used to have. 

I used this video to learn how. LOVE the wonders of YouTube. 

Again...super super easy.

Supplies & Making Stuff.

A lot of people ask me about my pouches, and where I get the supplies to make them. 

For my pouches, I order the printed fabric from Spoonflower.com. If you haven't heard of them, you should definitely check it out! You can get anything you want printed on fabric.

Not to mention, there's endless fabrics to choose from to purchase. This place is fantastic!

Next, I get my zippers off of a fellow Etsy seller: Kandcsupplies

They have loads of the most beautiful colors, in any length you want! They are very flexible, so if you there are colors that you wouldn't use, you just mention it in the note to seller.

They are super nice, and ship quickly!

My liner fabric is totally random. Sometimes it's bought from the store, sometimes donated to me, sometimes vintage or repurposed fabric. Every pouch is a surprise! 

Inside of each pouch, I have a little tag.

It's honestly just opaque t-shirt transfer material like what you can buy any craft store.

I use Transfermations for dark material.

Thrifty Wall Decor!

I'm SO excited about this project! 

Since summer I've been collecting mirrors for some thrifty wall decor.

I finally got enough mirrors, and put it all together. Check it out!

(Ok...Obviously, I don't have pictures of the next step.

But for the record, I took apart the mirrors and spray painted them. Easy enough right?)
