Throwback Thursday - Youtube Style

Ahh, the days of my old yellow dell laptop voice changer. Good times!

My almost job...and how I feel about it.

My almost job...and how I feel about it.

As some of you know, I applied for a job at the Starbucks inside of the new Safeway right by my house. The only reason I applied was because A) it was a 5 minute walk from my house and B) I thought it would be fun to learn how to make all those coffees C) My /impression/ was that coffee shops were more lenient with hair and tattoo weirdness and D) We could use the extra cash.

Anyway, I applied online and got called for an interview the next day. Went to the interview and got hired on the spot. In-between the call and the actual interview, I found out that Starbucks AND Safeway have the stricktest rules EVER for tattoos, piercings, hair, and dress code in general. I thought if I wore long sleeves and the hat (Starbucks uniform), I should be good. So anyway, I got hired and started the computer training...everything was fine. The second day I went to training, a different lady was there and kind of gave me a strange look. I started my work on the computer and the next thing I knew she was telling me that my hair color "would not fly" in the new store. She continued to say things like "Well, you interviewed and we hired you...but then you switched it up, and that wont work." I immediately told her that I did not change my hair, that I absolutely had pink hair when I got hired. She was very confused. I told her the name of the guy that did the hiring, and she proceeds to realize that he was a "manager in training". Apparently he didn't know? She felt bad about it, but still the hair wouldn't do. I told her I would have to decline the position then. She wanted to make sure I got paid for the time I had spent there, so we finished up some paperwork. I want to make sure it's clear, I am not bashing this lady...She was REALLY sweet to me. Very professional and seemed to be a great leader. She was just doing her job. People were constantly bombarding her so it took 20 minutes to do something that should of took 5. The whole time she was very kind and patient. So there's that.

I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason...even if you don't understand why. I still feel this is still true for this situation, but definitely I don't understand it. LOL! Why did I get hired only to be turned away? Was it to somehow tell me to "grow up"? Was it to reinforce to me that I am supposed to continue using my God given gifts at home as an artist? I don't feel bad about the situation at all. I am the most confortable with who I am now, as I ever have been. I love what I do, and I feel comfortable in my own skin. So there's no regrets there. It's a glorious thing!

Whatever the reason may be, I am thankful. When I walked away that day, I had a huge sense of relief. I honestly didn't know how I was going to juggle being a wife, artist and work. I know people do it all the time, but it's not me. I didn't know how things would work out with my weekend excursions to Pennsylvania and weekend craft shows. . . bla bla bla. Also I was going to ask off for an entire week after the store first opened for our Dominican Republic trip. They wouldn't of liked that either. Anyway. I am thankful. Whatever the reason for it all is yet to be determined.

Art without Boarders - Art Whino

Did I mention how much I love (and am still blown away) by the fact I live directly across the Potomac from National Harbor? Years ago, we stopped by Art Whino on the way to South Carolina to see Bryan Collins' work. The GPS took as to some dead end, because National Harbor was so new. Now I live a hop, skip and a jump from it.  It's still the weirdest thing to me!

Friday was their "Art without Boarders" opening. It was fabulous, all though at times I felt a little overwhelmed with all the people. It's hard to really look at each piece when everyone is waiting to look. At the same time it's really fun to go to opening night.  I took a few pictures. Ha!

After...
peeps

Of course, we had to stop for a treat at Pinkberry.
Here's a picture of Travis being totally ticked off because he spilled his greek yogurt.
. . and it wasn't that good either.

Overall I think Pinkberry loses as a fro-yo joint. I don't like how you have to tell them what to put on.
I like to be in control of my toppings. LOL. Still tasty though. I had the salted caramel.

Date night!

Well sort of. Every night is date night for us! Haha! We ventured out to Chinatown last night for a birthday party. It was nice, be we're really not the bar type. It's cold and rainy outside, so outings like this aren't that great. I can't wait until summer! I want to explore all these fun places around us!! Soon...soon spring will be here.

Thrift haul!

Was back home in Butler last weekend, and you know what that means! I hit up every thrift store in the area. People of Butler...you need to appreciate what amazing thrift stores you have! Treasures galore.

I haven't had time to take any more pictures than this...This isn't all of it!
I think I'm going to keep that umbrella for myself.

Lately...

Blaaa feel so sick!!! At least I have fun hair and glasses. Lol! #nofilter #selfie #sunset #glasses #pink #nerd #bored #sick #derp

Reading: Yesterday I finished all three books of "The Hunger Games". It took me over a year! Yep... that's how awesome of a reader I am. I did read a few books in between during the summer so give me a break. I really got stalled out on the third book. It was such a drag! The end was totally different than I thought. So yea, I'm glad I went ahead and finished it. I almost quit...but I couldn't do it.
Directly after I finished, I started reading "Cash - The Autobiography". I am fairly sure I started to read this book before, but got sidetracked. Either that, or I have the movie "Walk the Line" so engraved in my brain, I just /feel/ like I've read it. Either way, it's great. I need to keep reading with momentum. My brain is going to mush!

Watching: I finished Breaking Bad a couple of weeks ago. Well, I finished what was on Netflix. Ugh! Now I have to wait until rest is available. It's gonna be a while. Other than that, Travis and I have been watching Elementary. It's great. Modern day Sherlock Holmes. Good stuff!

Listening: Honestly, I can't stop listening to the new Donora and Tegan & Sara. Both incredibly fun, inspiring, happy and delightfully 80's. What more could you want??! Oh and Spoken has a new album. Different than their other albums. Heavier. Love it!

Eating: Well, when I am having a normal week at home, I'm eating very healthy and staying on track. When I have visitors over the weekend, or travel back to Butler, it's a disaster! I wish I knew how to remedy this. I'm up and down in my weight every time. Sigh. At least overall I'm maintaining!

Loving: My new hair. I just had it brightened up over the weekend. So bright... so happy. Too bad I'm going to be starting to work at Starbucks soon and will have to cover it with a had! Do'oh!

Looking Forward To: The Dominican Republic. I'm going again this year, with the same group as last year. It's going to be fantastic. A slightly different group...but Dustin will be there! YAY! I'm praying that everything works out with my new job. I told the guy that interviewed me about how I would need this time off, but he really didn't have an answer. Tomorrow when I go in for orientation, I will insist on telling someone who is in charge. I don't even know who that is! I just hope this doesn't affect my job...like weather I have it or not. We'll see.

I'm sorry for so many squirrel posts, but I feel like this guy is my actual pet! I've decided to name him Earl the Squirrel (thanks Tara!).
